The Wonders of Science and STEM: http://scienceandstemwond.wixsite.com/hawaii
Sample units aligning the Wonders curriculum to NGSS. Documents that were aligned to guide teachers should they want to meaningfully integrate the Wonders Reading Program with Science and STEM. This document was prepared with the support of the Hawaii State Department of Education by Stacy George, Lizabeth Horii, Phyllis Kawamoto and Karen Umeda. The standards incorporate HCPSIII and NGSS. |
From the DefinedSTEM site:
Defined STEM combines a unique set of real-world themed resources to create a 21st century learning platform. Our standards aligned performance tasks, literacy tasks and real-world video, enable students to see the relevance of K-12 topics through real-world careers and themes. Each of our resources allow students to apply concepts in simulated real-world scenarios, increasing student performance, and preparing them for college and 21st century careers. http://www.definedstem.com/ This site does require a log-in account. When the Login prompt is available, you need to select "Use Access Code." When prompted, use the following information in bold: Kapolei Elementary School Code: HDoE-149 Organization: Kapolei Elementary School Remember to write down your username and password if needed. Defined STEM will be provided FREE to all HIDOE K-12 schools for the next 5 years (until June 30, 2020) via the HIDOE partnership with Ka Hei and Op Terra Energy. TeachEngineering : https://www.teachengineering.org/
Website that gives a breakdown of introductions, procedures, and conclusions. Most lessons have online document links for worksheets and forms necessary to teach the lessons. Select "Browse" to search for lessons, units, subject areas, etc. This is a free site so no username or password is required. |
PBS Hawaii Learning Media: http://hawaii.pbslearningmedia.org/
Provides a variety of links similar to the Discovery Media our school used to have. You may find interactive simulations, links, lesson plans, videos, etc. Select "Search" to search for lessons, units, subject areas, etc. While registration is free, you do need to create an account to login and view or save links. |
SEA (Sea Earth Atmosphere) Curriculum: https://coast.noaa.gov/psc/sea/index.html
NOAA's Sea Earth Atmosphere Educational Resources include lesson plans, presentations, and other visual models to help students learn science concepts. These are developed specifically for Hawaii's environment and are aligned to HCPSIII for Grades 3-5. Please note that these can be adjusted to fit your needs for lower grades as well. |
Next Generation Science Storylines: https://www.nextgenstorylines.org/elementary
Very limited number of unit plans for NGSS, maybe one per grade level. But well developed for inquiry and questions. |
Bishop Museum Lesson Plans: www.bishopmuseum.org/lesson-plans/
Various lesson plans tied to Earth and Space Science strands, often directly connecting standards to Hawaii. |
